Product Research and Development:

Virginia Medical Supplies has developed a range of recyclable plastic blister trays for the segregation of medication for delivery into the community and nursing home settings. The product offered ease of use for patients and transparency to Healthcare professionals..

The company has developed a cloud based database called Nu-Life, used for patient information and patient medication management. The dispensed blister trays are supplied with an A4 Patient Information Chart (PIC’s) which contains the following information: schedule of medication, dosage, patient information and digital images of the individual medications.

More recently Virginia Medical Supplies commenced the design and development of a semi-automated machine for the dispensing of patient medication for the pharmacy sector. The semi-automated machine utilises the blister trays and the Nu-life database for patient and medication data and is the final part of a triduum solution for patient medication management for pharmacies.

Key objectives of the project are:

  • Design and develop a medication dispensing machine and integration of automated systems.
  • Continuous design and development of the medication pods.
  • Integration of the machine with the Nu-Life database for patient medication dispensing.
  • Complete testing, verification and validation of machine processes.
  • Integration into a pharmacy environment for beta site testing.

  • Initiatives in this company are co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Enterprise Ireland under the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020.
